Montero Daniels committed to iwi well being
Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe and Waitaha are mourning educationalist and former Ngai Tahu Maori Trust Board member Montero Daniels.
Mr Daniels, who was 87, died at home in Horohoro on Tuesday surrounded by family.
Maori Party leader Te Ururoa Flavell says he will also be mourned in Rotorua, where he settled with his Te Arawa wife Katarina in 2002 after 40 years teaching in Christchurch.
He says behind an unforgettable smile and playful charm was a razor-sharp wit and commitment to the wellbeing of his whanau and his iwi.
He is survived by Ka and his children James, Wiki, Rata, Rawiri and Tupu, 16 mokopuna and 20 mokopuna tuarua.
The tangi for Monty Daniels is at Te Pakira Marae, Whakarewarewa, Rotorua, with the nehu tomorrow morning.
