League urged to counter Brash blindness
The chair of Te Pou Matakana, the North Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency, has lashed out at former National Party leader Don Brash’s latest attack on so-called Maori favouritism.
Dr Brash is behind a new organisation, Hobson’s Pledge, which opposes Maori seats on councils and in parliament, co-governance deals, and any consultation with Maori over natural resource use.
Merepeka Raukawa-Tait told the Maori Women’s Welfare League conference in Auckland today the league needs to use its clout to speak up against such diatribes.
"I heard this morning Dr Brash saying he wants New Zealand to be colour-blind. Well you can bet what colour that is going to be," she says.
Mrs Raukawa Tait urged the league to work with other Maori organisations like Te Pou Matakana to counter the marginalisation of Maori and the poor delivery of services by government agencies.
