Ngapuhi Runanga open for business in Whangarei
Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi has beefed up its presence in Whangarei.
The runanga has come under pressure from elements of the tribe which seek to exclude it from involvement in the treaty settlement process, and have also painted it as being too focused on Kaikohe.
But today it opened a new office in the city, which it will share with Ngapuhi Iwi Social Services.
Acting chair Carol Dodd, who also chairs the social service arm, says the organsiaiton has been providing whanau support and services in Whangarei for a while.
The new space provides a permanent base for kaimahi as well as space for meetings and information sharing.
The office will be the home for Taitokerau Attendance Services, which supports schools, parents and whanau to improve tai tamariki attendance at school, and Parirau Services, which tackles re-offending and anti-social behaviour among young people.
