Blisters price of raising awareness
Apart from a few blisters on his feet, Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis says his body feels in good condition for day three of his week of marathon walks around Kaitaia to raise awareness of sexual violence.
A Ngapuhi group is circumnavigating Kaikohe, and Anthony Thompson from Ngati Whatua is leading a hikoi around the Auckland and Kaipara areas, starting today at Hoani Waititi Marae.
Mr Davis says like the hikoi he led last year from Tamaki Makaurau to Cape Reinga, it’s a way for the media to focus on an issue that does constant damage to people’s lives and hopes.
"So we’re getting a lot of coverage and it's all about raiaing awareness around sexual violence We're not waiting for the next race or next child abuse to come up on tv. We're doing something positive to keep it in the front of people's minds and encourage people to speak out," he says.
