Peace fleet honour to highlight Palesinian plight
Green MP Marama Davidson says he considers it an honour to be asked to go on a peace flotilla to Gaza in September, despite the dangers
Past flotillas have been turned back on the high seas by the Israel, which maintains an illegal blockade of the 365 square kilometre territory that is home to 1.8 million Palestinians.
Ms Davidson says the move has sparked a lot of deeply-held responses on social media, ranging from support to extreme hostility, but she won’t be deterred.
"This is one of the most high profile and longest running conflicts on the planet and as human rights spokesperson and an indigenous wahine I am really honoured to be going there with a bunch of women giving some profile to the plight of Palestinian women and particularly their role in building up their communities in times of conflict and trying to maintain peace," she says.
