Bad blood over Maori TV pay impasse
The union representing staff at Maori Television says chief executive Paora Maxwell reneged on a deal to resolve a pay dispute.
Mr Maxwell issued a statement last week calling on E Tu members to accept an offer of a base pay rise to reflect inflation coupled with a shift to performance-based pay.
E Tu organiser Joe Gallagher says its members, including key finance personnel, technicians, and journalists have been trying to renew their employment agreement since October.
He says negotiators last month thought they had a deal but Mr Maxwell reneged, leading to a unanimous vote for industrial action.
He hopes the dispute can be resolved in talks today, with any strike action a last resort.
