Rules muzzle plan advocates
The chair of Auckland’s Independent Maori Statutory Board is staying tight-lipped about the Unitary Plan that will set the rules for development in the super city.
The 8000-page document released yesterday removes the list of Treaty of Waitangi principles contained in the draft, and it also drops the requirement for a cultural assessment impact when developments may impinge on Maori heritage sites.
David Taipari says his board will now engage with the recommendations of the Independent Hearing Panel through its members on the council’s development committee.
"We are best from a board's point of view as a participant not to be saying too much about the plan so we don't be accused of any predeterminations and that we get on and go through the process over the coming weeks and get the plan adopted," he says.
David Taipari says there will be reviews, so there will be a chance to make amendments in the future.
