Rangatahi get voice in Ratana hui
Meanwhile, Ratana is turning its thoughts to its next generation.
Piriwiritua Rurawhe, who took over as church secretary after the death last year of Waka Palmer, says the movement is reviewing its structures and programmes.
He says it is consulting morehu and encouraging regions to bring rangatahi onto their komiti takiwa.
Rangatahi morehu are also working closely with the youth arms of the Kingitanga, Ngati Tuwharetoa and Ringatu.
"We're open to talking to all rangatahi. To that end there is a rangatahi forum this evening talking about specific kaupapa rangatahi that can be transferable across all kaupapa, from Koroneihana to Ratana to Pukawa to te hahi Ringatu so that these rangatahi from all these different kaupapa are learning about each and the tuhonotanga that sits between them," Mr Rurawhe says.
The movement also has a working part to look at a morehu education strategy, possibly including a charter school in auckland where the largest concentration of Ratana members live.
