Suicide rates, incarceration rates, homelessness rates - all cries for help that aren't being listened to
MARTYN 'BOMBER' BOMBER

What is the purpose of social agencies that reach out to our most vulnerable? Is it to punish them for being vulnerable or is it to attempt to heal and grow a vulnerable person into a strong one?

I know it's supposed to be the latter, but unfortunately under National it's become the former.

WINZ, CYFs, MoD, Housing NZ, Corrections, and Probations are services that most vulnerable people run from rather than risk becoming punished by.

We have agencies more focused on stripping away support than providing it and that is leaving us deaf to the anxious social warning signs that communities are now at breaking point.

579 suicides last year with 129 of them Maori.

10 000 in prison with over 60% Maori.

1 in every 100 NZers are now homeless with that number again hurting Maori most significantly.

By ignoring these symptoms of social dysfunction and promising $1.8billion in tax cuts, the Government hopes to simply bribe voters in the next election. The obligation for those wanting a fairer society is to remind voters of the true costs of those tax cuts.
