Forest and Bird fish list biased
Maori-owned seafood company Moana is challenging Forest and Bird’s latest Best Fish Guide as inaccurate and unscientific.
Chief executive Carl Carrington says the organisation would have people believe there are very few species of fish they can eat with a clear conscience.
He says all commonly eaten species in New Zealand are part of the Quota Management System which uses independent scientific data to manage fish stocks, and catches are limited if stocks are depleted.
The Best Fish Guide has a bias against bottom trawling, but less than 10 percent of the seabed is subject to trawling.
