New face chance to put Maori objectives to fore
The chair of Auckland’s Independent Maori Statutory Board, David Taipari, is keen to sit down with the new boss of the Auckland Tourism and Economic Development agency to advance Maori interests up the priority list.
Nick Hill comes to the job after a career that includes being chief executive of the Commerce Commission, establishing Sport and Recreation support body Sparc, and spells with Fletcher Energy and Electricorp.
Mr Taipari says the board has worked well with outgoing ATEED CEO Brett O’Reilly, but there is always opportunity in a fresh start.
"There needs to be a strengthening of Maori and Maori business entrepreneurship and other opportunities, particularly focusing around our rangatahi, and we think with Nick's entry, his ability hopefully to think outside the square will enable us to work closely with him to push hard for those objectives we have been trying to seek over the last few terms," he says.
Opportunities the board and ATEED can pursue include trade apprenticeships, business support and public events.
