Hone executes election strategy
Mana leader Hone Harawira is sticking by his call for drug importers who are also Chinese citizens to be executed.
He says extreme measures – and extreme language – are the only way to get people to face up to the harm caused by the drug.
He estimates there are more than 1000 methamphetamine addicts in Northland and only five rehabilitation beds, a sign the problem isn't being taken seriously.
Mr Harawira says P is devastating communities, with people lying, stealing, bashing and killing to get the drug or enforce the drug trade.
"I want our people to live and if to save 1200 people, 1000 people from home, a drug smuggler has to give his own life, I would give the drug smuggler's life away any day bro," he says.
Mr Harawira says China happens to be the primary producer of methamphetamine and its precursors, and it is Chinese people bringing it out.
He says there are precedents for Maori regulating what comes into their communities, including Tamati Wake Nene and Patuone smashing barrels of alcohol on ships trading in to Hokianga.
