Auckland Unitary Plan anti home ownership
A new report from Economic and Social Research Aotearoa ESRA, shows the Auckland Unitary plan won't solve the city's housing crisis.
Author of the ESRA report Vanessa Cole says not only is the Unitary plan failing aspiring home owners it's also displacing state house tenants.
"Tamaki regeneration is a perfect example where they're increasing the number of housing but not the number of supply of state housing which will create affordable housing for low income and homeless people in Auckland", she says.
Vanessa Cole says the only way for Auckland to get out of trouble is to build more state houses.
"State housing is the only solution to creating affordable housing in the city, it's a competitive alternative which drove down house prices and attached speculation."
Vanessa Coles says the ERSA report shows that the Auckland Unitary Plan allows greater scope for developer and investor speculation.
