Raising the age for superannuation disadvantages Maori
Maori Party Candidate for Te Tai Hauauru, Howie Tamati is calling for a review of the age for superannuation.
Currently the qualifying age is 65 but the National Government has signaled it'll slowly lift the age of superannuation eligibility to 67.
The changes will be phased in from July 1 2037 but even with the long lead in Howie Tamati says Maori will still be disadvantaged.
"The Government wants to put the superannuation up to 67 well that's going to put it even further out of our reach because our people are dying before they even get to pension age," he says.
