Minister backs Tainui job plan
Te Puni Kokiri has teamed up with Waikato-Tainui to promote job opportunities in Waikato.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says the ministry is putting $100,000 into the Waikato-Tainui Careers Centre's Earn While You Learn programme,
The programme, which has been running since last August, includes recruitment and placement services and pastoral care to help tribal members into jobs.
The iwi works with tertiary providers, industry partners and social service agencies.
Mr Flavell is keen to see the programme picked up by other iwi and providers, and another $150,000 over two years has been set aside to support a similar programme in Manukau.
