Destiny loses charity status
The Charities Registration Board has stripped two charities affiliated with Destiny Church of their tax-exempt status.
Board chair Roger Holmes Miller says there had been persistent failure by Destiny International Trust and Te Hahi o Nga Matamua Holdings Limited to file annual returns.
The trust is listed as providing religious services and activities, advice, information and advocacy, and services such as care and counselling, while Te Hahi o Nga Matamua Holdings provides of buildings, facilities, or open space to the church.
The church says the board is incompetent and is demanding an apology.
The bodies have until December 20 to appeal against the decision in the High Court.
