Maori caucus invites wero
Labour’s Maori caucus is set to be challenged today by some of the most high profile advocates of kaupapa Maori solutions.
Co-chair Willie Jackson says the invitation to the strategy day went out regardless of political affiliation, and he’s pleased with those who were able to turn up at short notice.
They include former Te Kohanga Reo National Trust chair Dame Iritana Tawhiwhirangi, Maori Women’s Welfare League president Prue Kapua, Te Pou Matakana chair Merepeka Raukawa Tait, Waikato-Tainui CEO Donna Flavell, Greenpeace campaigner Mike Smith, AUT law lecturer Khylee Quince, political commentator Morgan Godfrey, indigenous legal scholar Moana Jackson, justice reform advocate Kim Workman and former Race Relations Conciliator Gregory Fortuin.
"This has only been put together in the last week but we thought we have a sort of spare day today and I wanted to get some of the advocates and leaders, the movers and groovers in to challenge us, say what would they expect from a Labour Government," Mr Jackson says.
