Ngai Tahu confims Tumahai at top
Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu has confirmed Lisa Tumahai as its new kaiwhakahaere.
Ms Tumahai, who was first elected to the board in 2001, has chaired the runanga since Sir Mark Solomon stepped down in April 2016.
Matapura Ellison from Kati Huirapa Runaka in Otago was elected her deputy at the runanga board meeting at Tuahiwi Marae yesterday.
The board is responsible for the governance of more than $1.3 billion of tribal assets and protecting and advancing the collective interests of the iwi.
Ngai Tahu’s biennial Hui a Iwi runs at the Tuahiwi Marae from today until Sunday.
