Defence Force boost dental health
A Defence Force team has given a boost to dental health in Taneatua.
Working in partnership with Tuhoe and Bay of Plenty District Health Board, a 25-member NZDF team this month provided fillings, extractions and other dental treatment to more than 500 adults in the town.
Team leader Ross Heald says it allowed defence personnel to practise delivering treatment in a field environment, similar to what is done during humanitarian aid responses in the Pacific.
The team also gave presentations on the importance of maintaining good oral health, a healthy diet and exercise to about 240 schoolchildren in seven primary schools in the region.
A spokesperson for Tuhoe Te Uru Tumatua said the exercise helped address a build-up of dental care neglect.
