Legend Waka Nathan life member of Maori Rugby
New Zealand Maori Rugby has made Waka Nathan a life member for his contribution to Maori rugby.
Commentator Hemana Waaka says as well as turning out 37 times for the All Blacks, the soft-spoken butcher was a key member of the Maori rugby teams of the 1960s and went on to be a selector, coach and administrator.
He says Nathan was a legend.
"I still believe the All Blacks of yesteryear of his era in the 1960s, Kel Tremain and co, they were true iron men. They didn't come off the field when they got hurt. True blue pure bred hard men as All Blacks. We don't get to see the same today," Mr Waaka says.
