Big week ahead for Ratana
It's a big week at Ratana Pa, as morehu are expected in large numbers to mark the centenary of the movement and the 145th anniversary of the birth of founder Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana.
General manager Piriwiritua Rurawhe says the importance of the hui as the first major event of the political year can't overshadow the importance it also has in the spiritual life of followers.
All political parties are invited, and he says people will be keen to hear about the progress the new Government is making on the objectives it set for its first 100 days, and how those will impact Maori.
"What we have to consider is we have the most Maori ministers we have ever had. We have a good representation of Maori MPs across the House and I believe irrespective of what party they belong to they will focus on the well being of our people, so that is what I am interested in listening to when they are here on Wednesday," Mr Rurawhe says.
"A major part of this year's hui will be building capacity of rangatahi.
