Environment an economic issue
Environment an economic issue
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson is rejecting commentary the party has strayed too far from its environmental roots.
The criticism comes as the party headed into its annual meeting last weekend at Palmerston North Boys High School.
Ms Davidson says the Greens’s founding charter recognised environmental, social and economic outcomes are connected.
It also aligned with Māori values of kaitiakitanga and looking after the environment for generations to come.
"We are also the party who realise we can only care for our environment when we are caring for our people and that it is the current economic system which has brought us the economic and social degradation in the first place so that is what we have to change, and likewise we can only look after people if we are caring for our environment,," Ms Davidson says.
