Haumaha inquiry extended
The inquiry into the appointment process for the deputy commissioner of police has been extended five weeks until November 2.
Internal Affairs Minister Tracey Martin says inquiry member Mary Scholtens QC asked for the extension so she could interview more people than was originally anticipated.
The inquiry is looking into whether the appointment panel and the Police Minister considered all the necessary facts before recommending Wally Haumaha for the job.
It is also looking into subsequent allegations he bullied officials from other departments working on a joint project when he was head of the police Māori and ethnic team.
