Kawakawa drink a click away on new China portal
Eleven Māori exporters have teamed up to take high-quality food and beverage products direct to Chinese consumers through the ecommerce giant Alibaba.
The agreement to form the Hui Māori Collective was signed at parliament on Monday in the presence of Trade Minister David Parker and Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta.
The Māori-branded products including wine, Manuka honey, fruit bars, and Kawakawa soft drink will be hosted in NZ Post’s store on Alibaba’s Tmall Global site.
It’s underpinned by the Food Trust Framework verification process, and orders will be sent to customers through NZ Post’s partnership with China Post.
Mr Parker says the collective is an example of exporters diversifying and enhancing the value of their goods.
