Keonilei Fairbanks Lealiifano on Paakiwaha
Organiser of Mauna Kea rally Keonilei Fairbanks Lealiifano on Paakiwaha
KEONILEI FAIRBANKS LEALIIFANO INTERVIEW
We are standing in support of the protectors of Maunakea (Kia'i Mauna), who are trying to stop the construction of the thirty-Metre Telescope on top of its summit. Imagine if it was your maunga or sacred place that was going to be bombed and desecrated without any regard the people of that place. We must help to educate our community here in Auckland of what is happening in Hawaii because the media in Hawaii and the USA are not telling the truth about what’s going on!
The protectors of the Mauna (mountain) are called kia’i! They are standing in peaceful non-violent resistance (Kapu aloha) against any further desecration. We stand with them, in aloha!
“Kū Kia'i Mauna”- to Stand and protect our mountain.
Our Halau hula (hula school) will share some hula and chants, along with sign waving along Queen Street! We need your support E Aotearoa! So let’s meet at Aotea Square, right along Queen Street! If you know hula or chants, please feel free to share as well or join in!
Wear red or yellow shirts and please bring your own signs!!! Also bring Hawaiian/Maori/New Zealand flags to show your support!
We will post some videos and live links for you to understand the issue at Maunakea a bit better! As well as updates of happenings on the mauna and ideas and updates for our rally!
Ke aloha no, aloha Āina mau a mau…
