The Whānau Ora Minister says decisions should be made in the next couple of weeks about who should lead the development and implementation of the integrated service delivery model.
Peeni Henare prepared a paper after a dinner with the Prime Minister and five senior Māori women leaders who complain he is exploring different ways of funding initiatives rather than channelling all new funding for the kaupapa through the three existing commissioning agencies.
He says the paper has been received warmly by fellow ministers, and he will not test it with the dames and other interested parties.
The issue of strategic leadership has already been raised by an independent review of whānau ora, so the discussion is timely.
"Is it iwi-led? Is it pan-Māori-led? is there space for groups like the Māori Women's Welfare League? These are all the questions coming up and we want to make sure we canvass as best we can to make sure the end goal is what our people want," Mr Henare says.
