Billboard spat start of Northland showdown
New Zealand First MP Shane Jones has come out of the gates hard in his race to win back Northland as secure his party’s future in parliament.
He’s already got billboards up, something incumbent National MP Matt King claims is illegal.
Mr Jones says the billboards are allowed because they are all on private land.
He says National has taken Northland for granted, and it has taken a New Zealand First-Labour Government to attract a billion dollars of investment into the region.
"Now that’s not a brag sheet. I think when you go into politics and you are trying to develop the entire nation then you need to move out beyond the golden triangle or metropolitan New Zealand and ensure that scarce capital from the crown is dedicated to those areas that have been historically neglected and Northland has been neglected for too long," Mr Jones says.
