Change at helm at Te Atiawa charts new course
The chair of Te Kotahitanga o Te Ātiawa says the arrival of a new chief executive marks a new phase in the iwi’s development.
Current Te Ohu Kaimoana chief executive Dion Tuuta will replace Hemi Sundgren in the New Year.
Liana Poutu says now the New Plymouth-based organisation is through its establishment phase, it has a number of projects where the former Parininihi ki Waitōtara incorporation head's experience and relationships with government agencies and other iwi will be an ideal fit.
"It’s no secret we've got a lot of property development in the pipeline, joint ventures with our hapū, there's a lot happening in that space and a lot of it is due to the rights we have in our treaty settlement. There's some commercial development, some rural industrial development so Dion gets to be involved with bringing those to fruition for us," she says.
