Tamihere welcomed to Maori Party executive
Māori Party president Che Wilson says he’s looking forward to working with former MP John Tamihere on the next phase of the party’s development.
Mr Wilson was reelected president at the weekend and John Tamihere became co-vice-president tāne, replacing Tunuiarangi McLean.
The new co-vice president wahine is Fallyn Flavell, mokopuna of former co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell.
It’s a team that was tested under fire at the election, where Mr Tamihere tried to win back Tāmaki Makaurau and Ms Flavell led the successful campaign for Waiariki.
"Considering we had never worked together before we did really well in the campaign. He's got some amazing skills and knowledge. He understands this game, he understands the beast that is Poneke, and his heart for the people is massive. So I'm looking forward to the next three years with him and Fallyn," Mr Wilson said.
He also praised outgoing co-vice president Kaapua Smith, who helped him stabilise and revive the party after its crushing defeat in 2017.
