Future’s so bright Fuli had to wear shades
An Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board member says she needed sunglasses to see the glittering new Ngāti Ōtara Multi-sport Centre.
The former brick shed has undergone a $6.4 revamp to include new sport facilities, a laundromat, first-aid room, cafe/bar and on-site Whānau Ora medical clinic.
Lotu Fuli says the project almost got cut as the council looked to trim its budget in the wake of Covid.
"This is the one project I said 'this is the one thing I want to see done before I leave office.' On Saturday I was overwhelmed with emotion. I had to wear sunglasses so people couldn't see me crying because I was crying the whole time to see the hopes and dreams of our community come to fruition after a long, long fight," she says.
