Morrison the Muss glad of win
Actor Temuera Morrison feels relieved to have got through his first boxing match, let alone with a win.
Morrison scored a narrow points decision against Boris "The Hungarian" Sokratov in Auckland last night, on the undercard of the Joseph Parker – Afa Tatupu fight.
He says if his opponent had another week’s training he would probably have won.
"It was quite an experience for me just to front up, Temuera Morrison, put all that other character stuff aside, Jake the Muss, Dr Ropata, and all that stuff. I was shaking in my boots beforehand. I was trying to smile but I was really nervous. He clocked me a real good one in round one and I suddenly woke up and thought ‘this is going to hurt.’ So I thought if I went in there too hard and tried to do too much too soon I knew I would have run out of gas and so I was just trying to measure myself. I said ‘I just hope I’m standing by the end of these three rounds,’ and I had nothing left," Morrison says.
He now has huge respect for what boxers put themselves through, and he was impressed with the way Joseph Parker defeated "King" Afa Tatupu to take the New Zealand National Boxing Federation heavyweight title.
