Top tourism writers on the waka
Maori tourism operators are set to benefit from hosting some of the top international travel writers and editors, who’ve been in the country this week for the Travel Classic Writers Conference.
Tourism New Zealand’s major events director Justin Watson says TNZ won the right to host the conference in partnership with Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development and Air New Zealand.
They’ve shown the 14 editors and 32 freelance writers a range of activities, including visiting Te Puia and Hells Gate in Rotorua, seeing cultural performances and tours in Auckland, and going on a waka in Waitemata Harbour.
"Journalists and editors and writers are critically important because people trust them, people read their stories, and so having such a high caliber group of writers and editors down here experiencing New Zealand, experiencing our unique people, experiences and places, and then having them go back and writing positive stories about us and have those stories read by millions of people around the world is something that money can’t buy,"Mr Watson says.
