Davis running two tick campaign
Returning Labour list MP Kelvin Davis says he wants to come back after the election as the MP for Te Tai Tokerau.
Mr Davis will step into the list seat left vacant by the resignation of Shane Jones, who first convinced the former Kaitaia intermediate school principal to enter politics.
He says his priorities will be Maori education, violence against women and children, and the poor state of the Te Tai Tokerau electorate, where sitting MP Hone Harawira has failed to get action on issues like health, housing and job.
He’ll run a two tick campaign.
"There’s a number of people throughout Northland who say ‘I’m not on the Tai Tokerau roll but I’d like to vote for you.’ The simple answer is give your party vote to Labour and that’s my one of my best opportunities to get back onto parliament come 20th of September," Mr Davis says.
He had planned to take leave from his Education Minsitry job in early May to start campaigning, so the timing oif Mr Jones resignation is ideal for him.
