Nerves fire up Walker waiata
Stan Walker song says he’s excited at getting a chance to release a song in te reo Maori
Aotearoa was launched yesterday to mark the start of Maori Language Week and is available on iTunes.
The Australian Idol winner says he’s been in Australia for 10 years but he’s proud to be a Maori and determined to keep up the connection with this country.
Writing the song with producer Vince Harder, getting it translated by Te Haumihiata Mason and recording it with Maisey Rika, Ria Hall and Troy Kingi, was a great learning experience.
"I was nervous. I've been nervous this whole process, doing a Maori song, because I didn't want to sound plastic. Even though I sing Maori songs all the time I have never recorcded one, and I am excited to sing alongside some of the best voices ever out of this country," Walker says.
Some of the royalties from Aotearoa will go to support the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre.
