Peters picks holes in Hauiti yarn
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is accusing Prime Minister John Key of covering up the reason list MP Claudette Hauiti is standing down.
Ms Hauiti told the caucus yesterday she would not be standing in September’s eleciton, meaning a new candidate must be found for Kelston.
Mr Peters says Mr Key made the call on Ms Hauiti on Monday night after he knew she had engaged in a lot of private spending on her parliamentary card.
He says there were also financial irregularities that neither she nor the National Party could reconcile.
He says by the PM needs to explain why she is not being held accountable.
Ms Hauiti will stay on in Parliament on full salary until the election and receive another three months’ pay after that.
