Cover act ready to give Mozzies taste of home
Bay of Plenty Māori duo TJ & Huri is ready to take their living jukebox act across Tasman.
Huri says they’ve come a long way since meeting on the side of the road in 2016 and then building up an audience through social media clips of cover versions.
The Aotearoa leg of their Summer Tour ends in South Auckland on April 1, and they have three weeks off before jumping the ditch.
“Australia is untouched territory and the thing with our whanau over there, it gives them a sense of being home. They may not be able to make it home but listening to these waiata makes them mokemoke or gives them a sense of being whole again. It’s going to be awesome. It is a dream come true for myself and TJ who have gone from nowhere to travelling the world,” Huri says.
He says they hope to travel to more countries Māori call home.
