Commissioner to encourage social entrepreneurs
The Whanau Ora commissioning agency for the South island, Te Putahitanga o Te Waipounamu, was launched today with events at Otautahi, Murihiku, Otakou, Tai Poutini, Whakatu, and Wairau.
Whanau Ora Minister Tariana Turia told the Christchurch launch that she was fascinated by Te Putahitanga’s goal of growing social entrepreneurs to create community-level change and whanau entrepreneurs who can develop investment-ready, whanau-generated initiatives.
She says the amount that has been achieved around the country since whanau ora was launched in 2010 has contributed to a wider change in Government and provider thinking around whanau engagement.
There has been a wide range of goals and approaches adopted, from education and career planning, health assessment and screening, whanau safety, budgeting and housing.
Other whanau are taking steps to improve their well-being, strengthen whanau connections and relationships and improve housing, education, and financial well-being.
