Magic needed in Tuhoe apology
Tuhoe’s chief negotiator says tomorrow’s crown apology should be the foundation for better relations in future.
A large crowd is expected at the tribe’s new headquarters in Taneaatua, Te Uru Taumatua, to hear government ministers acknowledge more than 150 years of warfare and raupatu.
It will be followed by a celebration featuring the Laughing Samoans, Three Houses Down, the Children of the Mist and Che Fu.
Tamati Kruger says done badly an apology can sound insincere.
"If it’s done well and it's comprehensive and it's personal and sincere there's magic that goes there, where it becomes inspirational and people believe, 'look that apology has enabled us to work together in the future and we can let go of some anger now and enable forgiveness,'" he says.
