Maori roles added in St John revamp
St John is adding Maori liaison roles as part of a revamp in staffing and operations made possible by a new funding model.
Accident Compensation has agreed to bulk fund the ambulance service, rather than requiring it to invoice for every accident-related call-out.
With additional funding from the Ministry of Health, it means the service can add another 158 frontline ambulance staff in 35 locations over the next year.
This will improve service response times and mean fewer areas will need to operate ambulances with just one crew member.
ACC is keen to see St John help with initiatives such as improved falls prevention, improving outcomes from spinal cord injuries and major trauma.
ACC will also help St John on initiatives aimed at improving Maori health outcomes, by funding Maori liaison roles in its Clinical team.
