Inquiry needed into Collins politics
Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta says there needs to be a full public inquiry in the wake of the resignation of Justice Minister Judith Collins.
Mrs Collins stepped down on Saturday after an email emerged from National Party attack blogger Cameron Slater linking her to a 2011 campaign against the then head of the Serious Fraud Office, Adam Feeley.
Ms Mahuta says the Opposition has been calling for an inquiry since Mrs Collins was caught out over the work she was doing on behalf of her husband’s milk products company Oravida.
She says the fall out from the Dirty Politics book and the latest revelations make a full inquiry necessary.
"The Prime Minister has to have an inquiry into these matters. They damage not only the credibility of a senior minister in his cabinet but also senior officials in his office and ultimately the mud will stick somewhere around him, if not on him, so he has to have an inquiry," she says.
Nanaia Mahuta says Maori don’t want to see American-style dirty politics, and the backlash could spark a bigger turn out in the election.
