Flavell ahead in Waiariki poll
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell will have a spring in his step with a new poll showing he is on track to retain his Waiariki seat by a wide margin.
The Native Affairs-Reid Research poll released by Maori Television has him on 50 percent support for the electorate vote against 21 percent for Mana’s Annette Sykes.
Labour’s Rawiri Waititi is third on 17 percent.
Tauranga Broadcaster Pat Spellman, standing for Brendan Horan’s Independent Coalition Party, attracted the support of 2 percent of the 500 people polled, and 10 percent said they were undecided or wouldn’t vote.
In 2011 Mr Flavell got 41 percent of the vote to Ms Sykes’ 31 percent.
Labour was ahead on the party vote at 35 percent to the Maori Party’s 26 percent, followed by Internet Mana on 14 percent and National 11. Percent.
