Greens aim to lead opposition
Green's co-leader Metiria Turei says the party's aim is to be seen as the main opposition party.
The Greens collected one in 10 of votes cast, well short of the 15 percent they were aiming for.
That gives them 13 seats, one less than last time, although they hope to pick up another on special votes.
That will still mean the next highest Maori candidate, Marama Davidson, will miss out.
Ms Turei says it means another three years in opposition.
"Our goal now is to lead the opposition, I mean Labour is in total disarray, so we are still putting it to them. We will tackle them on the issues that matter and if we can get some cooperation across the political boundaries for good green change we will do it. This is what our job is, this is how politics works," she says.
Ms Turei says the Greens will try to engage with National on environmental policy, and it will also pursue any opportunities for cross party action on child poverty.
