Opposition MP sets out action plan
The new Te Tai Tokerau MP is rejecting suggestions Labour’s Maori MPs will be unable to do anything from the Opposition benches.
Outgoing Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia has criticised Maori voters for giving the Maori seats back to Labour.
She says in doing so they rendered six of the seven Maori seats impotent with their MPs trapped in the opposition wasteland.
Kelvin Davis says he made it plain to voters that he was serious about tackling sexual and domestic violence, and he has been talking with people in his electorate about an action plan.
The next step will be to talk to the incoming ministers who have their hands on the resources.
" We as Opposition MPs actually need to make connections with the appropriate ministers so that we can actually try and get things done. If they get credit for it well I guess that's just the price you pay for getting 24 per cent in the polls but we actually have to start working on behalf of the people for the people and making positive differences in everyones lives " he says.
