Reedy a great leader lost
Former Mana Motuhake leader Sandra Lee says Ngati Porou and the country have lost a great leader with the death this week of Amster Reedy.
Mr Reedy died of a stroke on Wednesday aged 70.
He was a founding member of the party started by the late Matiu Rata, and stood several times in the southern Maori seat.
Ms Lee says he would have made a great member of parliament.
"Parliament’s the poorer not having ever got him over the line but he’s much more than that as well. We all know he was a diplomat, he was a leader, he was an educator, he was a mentor, he was a wise man, he was a great man. He was a man of the world, not just te ao Maori. He had a vision of a planet intact and all cultures in society being enshrined and respected," she says.
New Amsterdam Reedy’s tangi is at Hiruharama Marae near Ruatoria, with the funeral service at 11 tomorrow morning.
