Reo on digital Maori TV focus
Maori Television’s new chief executive says he intends to turn the organisation into a fit-for-purpose Maori language multi-platform broadcaster.
Paora Maxwell yesterday confirmed to staff he was pushing ahead with a plan he says will better suit a fast-changing digital environment.
The restructure has led to the departure of production general manager Carol Hirschfeld and will require news and current affairs head Julian Wilcox to apply for a new role if he wants to stay on.
Mr Maxwell says Maori Television was established for the express purpose of revitalising the Maori language, and the changes will better support that objective.
He says some changes to job titles and reporting structures were made after consultation with staff, and only two jobs will be lost instead of three.
All content development will be done by one team, and there will be more priority given to commercial activities, marketing and research with the aim of creating greater promotional and revenue opportunities.
