Cross opens heart on new album
Entertainer Tina Cross has belatedly discovered a new talent as a songwriter.
Despite having been a familiar figure to audiences here and across the Tasman and even wider afield since 1975, the 55-year old singer and actor has up to now performed material penned by others.
Now she has released an album of original songs, Lay Down Your Heart.
She says the death of a close family friend inspired her to put pen to paper.
"That sort of started the whole process. I wrote the song and thought I can write songs. I never really thought I had it in me because it’s a completely different process from performance. You need to kind of have the time and space in your mind to sit down and write and that’s what happened. Next thing I know I’ve written a whole album, so fantastic," Cross says.
Lay Down Your Heart was launched at this year’s Variety Artists Club of New Zealand Awards, where Tina Cross received the coveted Benny Award marking a lifetime of excellence in the field.
