Ngati Ruanui come home
South Taranaki iwi Ngati Ruanui is expecting up to 1500 people from as far away as Australia for its biennial festival this weekend.
There will be sports and kapa haka, with each of the whanau and hapu kapa required to include one of the traditional iwi waiata in their bracket.
Chief executive Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says with more than 80 percent of iwi members living outside the takiwa, the korero will be as much about national and international events as what is happening at home.
The tribe is taking over the hub at Te Hawera.
