Tainui future lies within
Waikato Tainui members have just one day left to vote on how their iwi should be run.
A Governance and Representation Review was sparked by concerns the current 20-year-old structure was unwieldy and was not clear enough about the division of roles between the tribal parliament and the executive.
It came up with two models.
The Marae Model is described as an enhanced view of the current model, with just two instead of three representatives from each marae.
The size of the executive would go from 11 to nine, six of them from the parliament, two independents elected at large, and one appointed by the Maori king.
The executive would have its own secretariat.
The other model, called Status Quo Plus, leaves the current structure largely unchanged with some clearer definition of the roles and responsibilities of the parliament and the executive.
Online voting ends at noon tomorrow.
