Workplace attack unsafe law
New Zealand First MP Winston Peters says the Government's proposed changes to employment laws are a recipe for unhappy and unsafe workplace.
The changes, which are likely to pass with the support of ACT MP David Seymour but not United Future nor the Maori Party, will allow employers to walk away from collective bargaining.
They would also end statutory minimums for meal breaks and smokos.
Mr Peters says while there could be arguments for more flexible break times, it's not right to allow them to be bargained away.
"Let's be very clear. Tired, overworked, unhappy workers are more likely to be dangerous than those who are not, that is more likely to cause work safety problems than those that are not,' he says.
Mr Peters says workers should not have to bargain for what have been standard labour market conditions fought for over a long time.
