Supportive home sought for Maori TV
The chief executive of Maori Television says it should have a better idea in two or three months whether it should move out of its Newmarket headquarters.
Since his controversial appointment Paora Maxwell has conducted what he describes as a strategic realignment that led to the departure of experienced executives and broadcasters Carol Hirschfeld and Julian Wilcox.
Positions have been filled on an interim basis, with experienced journalist Maramena Roderick stepping in to run news and current affairs until the end of summer.
Mr Maxwell told Radio Waatea’s Willie Jackson that over the next few months there would be more work done around employment and remuneration processes, what it means to be a leader at Maori Television, and what it should do when the lease on its building expires in 2017.
" Do we need to find a hapori Maori, a Maori community to look after Maori TV. That's one of the drivers that sits on the table. So we are looking at a reconfiguration of Newmarket. We are also looking at other locations in Auckland, maybe south Auckland, west Auckland. And also quite prudently we are looking outside of Auckland. The board said to the management team cast your net wide " he says.
Paora Maxwell says exploratory talks have been held with the Rotorua and Hamilton councils.
